Ece Idil had her introduction to music at the age of eight; her first instrument was the harp.At the same time she studied ballet, which she developed to a professional level, and she performed for a short time at the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet. She graduated from the Ataturk Highschool at 1973 and, being accepted into the Istanbul State Conservatory Opera and Vocal Arts Department, became a student of Mustafa Iktu. LAter she went on to study with Mesut Iktu as the first student of the Lied Singing Department, from which she grauated in1980 magna cum laude. Concentrating her studies on lieder, chamber music and orchestral vocal repetoire, Idil worked on french song repetoire with C. Reşid Rey.She went on to make several recordings and give performances of the works of Turkish and contemporary composers at Turkish Radio and Television and other other television stations. In addition to solo concerts performed at home with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Cukurova State Symphony Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra and the Izmir State Symphony Orchestra, she has also performed in Casablanca, Rabat and Paris.In 1992 she was invited to Bulgaria as a solo artist to the Sofia Modern Music Festival.She performed Theo Loewendie's "Six Turkish Manies" and A. Berg's "Seven First Songs" with the İstanbul State Symphony Orchestra, the first time these pieces had been performed in Turkey. In 1985, she performed the world premier of C. Resid Rey Sextuor, with the Bosphorus Chamber Music Ensemble. Since 1981, Ece Idil has served as an instructor and head of the art department in the opera branch of the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts State Conservatory. She has three cds under Kalan music label: "12 Anatolian Folks Songs" by C. Resid Rey (2004), and first Turkish woman composer Nazife Guran's lieds (2006) and "Three Masters" (Usmanbas, Saygun, Rey) (2007). Since July 2012 she has been assigned as general art director of İstanbul Kültür University. She has been awarded with "Music Educator of the Year" in Donizetti Music Awards 2013 organized every year by the Andante magazine.
